Institute
Who We Are
The Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea (IBDMar | BILOS) is a non-profit technical-scientific association that brings together researchers, professors, diplomats, judges, military officers and students dedicated to the study of the Law of the Sea and ocean-related topics.
We work to produce and share knowledge, train specialists, and foster institutional dialogue on sovereignty, sustainability and international cooperation in the oceans — from the Brazilian coast to the high seas.
Our History
Founded in 2015 by a group of Law of the Sea professors and researchers, IBDMar — the Brazilian Institute for the Law of the Sea — is a nationwide, non-profit, technical-scientific association open to membership from across civil society.
It is now regarded as the most established institution in Brazil for organizing events and for disseminating, promoting and developing the Law of the Sea.
