Eight works were qualified to participate in the first edition of the contest, aimed at valuing academic production in Law of the Sea, Maritime Law and related areas.
The Brazilian Institute of Sea Law — IBDMAR makes Approval Opinion of the Registrations of theIBDMAR Thesis and Dissertation Award — 2026. public
The analysis was carried out based on the eligibility criteria and documentary requirements established in the Award Notice. In all, nine valid applications was received, of which eight have been approved and one has not been approved.
Among the approved works are four doctoral theses and four master’s dissertations, developed in graduate programs of different Brazilian institutions. The research covers relevant and current topics, such as protection of refugees and maritime stowaways, piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, marine protected areas, plastic and microplastic pollution, climate change and maritime transport, continental shelf and disposal of chemical weapons at sea.
The approval considered, among other requirements, the defense and approval of the work in 2025, its link to the national graduate program in the strict sense, the thematic relevance with the Law of the Sea, Maritime Law or related areas, the lack of commercial publication and the complete presentation of the documentation provided for in the Notice.
The opinion presents the individual list of registrations, the academic papers submitted, the institutions and programs of origin, the respective categories and the rationale for the decisions.
